Democratic Parade exhibition opens at The Bluecoat

POSTERS from the demonstration that got future news broadcaster Jon Snow kicked out of the University of Liverpool go on display at The Bluecoat today.

They are exhibited alongside the work of 40 artists exploring ideas around democracy and the radical in the Democratic Promenade show.

Highlights include archival material showing the late Adrian Henri’s radicalism as poet, painter, performer, musician and critic; Dave Sinclair’s photographs of the 1985 Liverpool School Students’ Strike; and Rose Vickers’ paper cut-outs.

Artistic director Bryan Biggs says: “The stimulus is that it is 100 years since several significant events took place in the city that had a profound impact culturally, architecturally and politically – a Post-Impressionist exhibition at the Bluecoat, the opening of the controversial Liver Building, and a general transport strike.”

DEMOCRATIC Promenade is at The Bluecoat until November 27.
