The Smiths are dead, long live The Smiths

IT WAS 25 years ago that The Smiths unleashed their masterpiece The Queen is Dead on a British public blighted by the Falklands War, the Miners Strike and mass unemployment.

A quarter of a century later, you could argue not a lot has changed, which is perhaps why the Mancunian foursome remain such a popular and well-loved band.

Unlike most of their contemporaries (New Order and Echo and the Bunnymen), The Smiths have always resisted the temptation to reform following their 1987 split, which is where tribute band The Smiths Indeed come in.

Since forming in 2005, they have developed a rapturous following of their own amongst the notoriously hard to please hardcore Smiths fans.

Expect hits like Bigmouth Strikes Again and the immortal There Is A Light That Never Goes Out and revel once more in the majesty of one of Britain’s finest ever bands.

THE Smiths Indeed play Liverpool University’s Stanley Theatre, on Friday, October 28.
