Tranny Hotel will take over the Liverpool Adelphi this weekend

TRANSGENDER arts festival Tranny Hotel will take over part of Liverpool’s iconic Adelphi Hotel this weekend.

Three days of transforming encounters in stylish surroundings will present a window into transgender art.

The event features 12 performers, both male to female and female to male, from across the globe in numerous spaces around the hotel, including bedrooms, suites, staircases, hallways and function rooms.

Festival producer Mandy Romero says: “There has always been a place for transgender performers in society but within very strict limits – drag queens, travestie performers and farcical characters – and trans people have always been marginalised, even during a period when gay people’s rights were being established and the gay community was achieving a greater integration into society.

“We hope Tranny Hotel will project a creative and imaginative image of what we have to offer through art while encouraging people to talk about what being transgender means and helping the trans community to take their place amongst everybody else in a confident and joyous way.”

Romero will be performing in the opening night spectacular alongside physical theatre practitioner Lazlo Pearlman.
