A CONCERT based on secret radio transmissions between British intelligence and the European resistance movements in the Second World War is being performed at this year’s Cornerstone Festival on November 26.
Floating Messages & Fading Frequencies brings together New York composer-performer Annie Gosfield and her trio with Danish new music ensemble Athelas Sinfonietta.
Gosfield, who uses sampled sounds including mechanical, industrial and signal noise in her work, has been compared to avant garde US composer John Gage, whose 1952 composition 4’33 consisted of three movements performed without a single note being played.
The theme of Floating Messages & Fading Frequencies continues with a new suite by Karsten Fundal, based on his music to the Resistance film Flame & Citron. The concert will conclude with EWA7, Gosfield’s signature industrial piece for factory sounds, guitar, drums and percussion. It will take place at The Great Hall, part of Liverpool Hope University Creative Campus on Shaw Street.
The Cornerstone Festival, which features music, art and dance, begins on Wednesday and runs until December 3.
