LIVERPOOL-BORN mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge is following her professional opera debut with an appearance in a charity carol concert for Clatterbridge Cancer Research.
The singer will be joined by two local choirs for the performance in Liverpool Cathedral on Sunday, December 4.
She will open the evening’s Christmas-themed festivities with a solo performance of 19th-century composer Adolphe Adam’s O Holy Night.
“As soon as there’s a chance to sing in Liverpool, I often jump at it because it’s just lovely, especially a Christmas concert for such a great cause,” says Kathryn.
“Carol concerts are a real highlight in the calendar for me, and such a great time for families to get together.
“O Holy Night is a beautiful, really big Christmas song, so I’m thrilled to be singing opening the concert with that.”
Her appearance will mark the end of a busy year for Kathryn, who made her professional debut earlier this year as Cherubino, in English National Opera’s production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, at The Coliseum.
“It was a dream come true,” says the 25-year-old Royal Northern College of Music graduate.
“I loved every minute of it. It was a really big challenge but it was fantastic to be a part of it.
“People from Merseyside who’ve been following my studies came down to see it, which made it extra special.”
