LIVERPOOL will unite to celebrate the life of George Harrison on the 10th anniversary of his death.

Three events tomorrow will commemorate the former Beatle, who died of lung cancer on November 29, 2001.

A short Liverpool Cathedral service will take place at 11.30am.

Organiser Denise Theophilus said: “Liverpool will pay a special musical tribute to its beloved son throughout the day.

“People are invited to bring a flower or a paper symbol of peace to the service, with a suitable prayer written on it. Love and peace were the precepts most dear to George.”

At 2pm the Free Concert For George will be staged in the Concert Room at St George’s Hall.

Bands marking different eras of George’s life will perform in the presence of the Lord Mayor.

The acts include Jeff Slate of The Badge, Lee Christian of Smilex, Singh Strings and The Rebels, Tsema, The Liverpool Ukelele Orchestra, The Mersey Beatles and Andre Barreau, who performs as Harrison in The Bootleg Beatles.

Barreau said: “For this concert I am doing something completely new and looking at the post-Beatle years in George’s music.
