Her Benny writer Anne Dalton goes hi-tech in new show Who Can Save Christmas?

AWARD-WINNING producer Anne Dalton is swapping Victorian street urchins for computer virus villains and festive frolics.

The former English teacher’s stage adaptation of Silas Hocking’s novel, Her Benny – which follows the fortunes of siblings Benny and Nell in the slums of Liverpool – has played to sell-out audiences since 1993. But her up-coming Christmas show embraces the internet age – thanks to dastardly duo Vic and Vin Virus there’s a virus in Santa’s computer and he has no idea where the gifts are supposed to go on Christmas Day.

The elves are in turmoil and it looks like children all over the world will have empty stockings. A heroic group of Santa’s pals set off to find Auntie Biotics, the only person who can save the day.

Anne, who lives near Ormskirk, says she’s delighted to be returning to Wirral after a summer run of Her Benny at the Floral Pavilion.

She said: “I fell in love with Heswall Hall.

“It’s lovely and it’s just such a nice atmosphere in there. I thought it would be a good place to have a Christmas show.

“It’s a first because they haven’t had one there before.

“We stayed in Wirral while Her Benny was at the Floral, and we had such a nice time.”

WHO Can Save Christmas? is at Heswall Hall from December 19-24.
