THE magic of Monty Python is tied up in its comedic unpredictability – something which obviously gets a little lost in Spamalot as it was “lovingly ripped off” from the film.
Much of the audience already know and love many of the jokes, which means a successful production cannot rest on the gags alone.
Unfortunately the current attempt at the musical is guilty of this in part.
Of course it is hilarious.
Of course the audience giggle throughout.
Of course people leave content with their evening’s entertainment, but it misses strong performances, which would do justice to the comedic genius behind it.
