ROYAL Court regulars Andrew Schofield and Stephen Fletcher are crossing the city to the Liverpool Actors’ Studio for one week only.
They will star in A Life In The Theatre, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Mamet.
Schofield plays stage veteran Robert, who finds himself initially clashing with young, promising actor John (Fletcher).
Over a series of short, spare and increasingly raw exchanges, their relationship gradually begins to resemble a closer friendship.
Fletcher, who is currently appearing in A Streetcar Named Desire at the Liverpool Playhouse, says: “Having worked with Andrew on a number of productions, often sharing the same dressing room, I began to realise that we were living out a version of the reality of this play.
“It seemed like a great piece to do together as it articulated much of the life backstage in a theatre.”
A Life In A Theatre was first produced in Chicago before moving to Broadway.
Notable recent UK productions include a run at London’s Apollo Theatre in 2005 with Patrick Stewart and Joshua Jackson.
Fletcher adds: “There is a unique set up backstage – it’s where people see each other at their best and worst.
“Mamet shines a light on to what most audience members will never see – the claustrophobia, the paranoia, the insecurity, as well as the energy, variation, uplifting and exciting elements of working in this particular industry.”
A LIFE In The Theatre is at the Liverpool Actors’ Studio, Seel Street, from March 13-18
