MAMMA MIA gets turned on its head in Life in Theatre’s latest production, Mam I’m ’Ere – geddit?
Written and directed by Liverpool actor Stephen Fletcher, the musical tells the story of Sally (Rachel Rae) who wants her mum to be at her wedding to Simon (Fletcher).
The problem is she has never met her, so she goes through her dad’s little black book and plots a scheme to invite the three potential mums to the disco holiday camp where she lives.
“I can’t believe I get paid for this sort of thing,” laughs Eithne Browne, who plays a school teacher. “They want me to dress up, sing, dance – it’s like a wonderful musical gym.”
The set has been designed by cast member Helen Carter.
“She’s a really good artist and is making amazing things out of polystyrene,” adds Browne.
The cast is made up of Royal Court regulars, including Paul Duckworth and Alan Stocks, who found themselves out of work for Christmas – that is until Fletcher came up with the idea of putting on their own production.
Andrew Schofield, who plays Sally’s dad, Dave, adds: “The Dome is a brilliant venue. This will be one of the first big plays they’ve had on there. It would be great if we can make this a regular event.”
MAM I’m ’Ere is at The Dome at Grand Central, Renshaw Street, from December 7 to January 12. Tickets: £15 (preview £11); 0844 870 0887, www.lifein theatre.ticketsource.co.uk
