SPOTLIGHT: Patty Vincent, director/character development director, Feld Entertainment

Patty Vincent, director/character development director at Feld Entertainment, which is bringing Disney On Ice Presents Let’s Party to the Echo Arena from February 27 to March 3.

Tell us a bit about your job As character director, I work on creating a specific style of movement for the characters in our show. I create the physical animation, the interaction with the other actors and design the staging. As the director, I oversee development of all creative content – of treatments, scripts, scenic and costume design, music development, casting, lighting/video.

What inspires you? Dramatic story-telling and complex characters.

When were you last moved by culture? I’m a huge fan of the Canadian architect Frank Gehry, who designed the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. And I was fortunate enough to visit another one of Gehry’s designs, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

What are you most looking forward to in the next 12 months? I’m really looking forward to the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. I really love the human drama of athletic competition.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? I never really project too far into the future. I definitely think my priorities change year to year.

What makes you laugh? The ridiculous. Kristen Wiig. The extreme. My partner. Bridesmaids.

What gets you angry? Professionally, when someone resists contributing to a solution. When creating, it’s so important to me that we all work together, work toward the same goal to create the best show possible.

What’s your hidden talent? I love painting with acrylics and oils. When I was young, I took a course in art history and was inspired by the Group Of Seven Canadian landscape painters. I need to pick up those brushes again.
