FINNISH artist Kaarina Kaikkonen is asking members of the public to donate their shirts so she can turn them into a sculpture.
The piece, which will hang in FACT’s atrium as part of the Liverpool Biennial, will reflect on the maternal act of doing the laundry, which can be understood as a basic symbol of healing, care, and unconditional love.
After the 10-week festival of contemporary art closes, the clothing will be donated to charity.
To contribute a shirt, which can be either adult or child-sized, take it into FACT’s information desk or post it to FACT, 88 Wood Street, Liverpool, L1 4DQ. For updates on the work, label the clothing with your name, postcode and email address.
