Showroom tax looms

MANY people seem to be unaware of the new showroom tax, and those who have heard of it appear uncertain about what it exactly means.

The tax, which will be introduced next month, is an amount which is payable on new cars only. But it is quite a large lump of cash to pay – designed to persuade people from buying high-emission cars.

For example, anyone buying a car that has CO² emissions above 255g/km will have to shell out a huge showroom levy of £950 as well as an annual road tax of £455.

Vehicles that have emissions of between 181g/km and 200g/km will pay a showroom tax of £410 – as well as an annual road tax of £270.
