FORD has tripled the availability of its fuel- efficient PowerShift transmission, extending the slick self- shifter to six different models.
PowerShift is a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, combining the performance and fuel-efficiency of a manual gearbox with the ease and convenience of a conventional automatic.
Originally launched in the Ford Focus and C-MAX, the transmission is now also available on the Kuga, Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy.
In the case of the latter trio, PowerShift is fitted as standard to the new 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, while on Šthese three models, plus the Kuga, Focus and C-MAX, it can also be specified with the 2.0-litre Duratorq diesel engine, with resulting CO² emissions as low as 149g/km.
“We are excited to extend the benefits of the PowerShift transmission to a much broader range of cars and engines,” said Pat Oldani, Ford’s automatic transmission manager.
Diesel models fitted with Ford PowerShift cost approximately £1,500 more than the equivalent vehicle with a manual gearbox.
