Liverpool’s oldest supporter is to be trophy room VIP

Liverpool Football Club's oldest fan, Nell Rimmer

LIVERPOOL Football Club’s oldest fan will be cheering them on in their Champions League match against AC Milan – as she prepares to celebrate her 107th birthday.

Nell Rimmer, a lifelong supporter, has also been invited by the club to visit the ground and see the trophy room in celebration of her status.

Describing herself as “football mad”, Nell now lives in Cheshire County Council’s Hallwood Court extra care housing village in Neston, surrounded by her Liverpool memorabilia.

Born in Oswestry on May 31, 1900, Nell says she had a happy childhood living with her parents and sister, and with her father working as a brick setter she “wanted for nothing”.

She married Jim from Ellesmere Port, in 1928, and although the couple had no children of their own, Nell has always have been surrounded by a huge family of over 50 nieces and nephews and their children who still come to visit.

Jim died in 1963, after 45 years of marriage.

Nell said: “Jim loved football, he spent a lot of time playing the game until he went in to the army at 17 as the youngest recruit from Ellesmere Port.
