Montse now a Liverpool lass

WHILE Rafael Benitez may have kept a cool head against Chelsea, it was a different story for his other half.

As the Liverpool manager rallied his troops ahead of the decisive penalty shoot-out, his wife Montse offered up a small prayer in support.

And when the tension became too much, Mrs Benitez faced away from the spot-kicks and crouched behind a barrier, relying instead on the reaction of the Kop as Liverpool kept their nerve to clinch Wednesday’s final berth against AC Milan.

With her husband having promised to buy her a watch with every trophy he wins, Benitez’s wife has extra reason to hope the European Cup returns to Anfield.

But the Liverpool manager said: “We don’t talk about these things. We will see what happens, but first of all we need to win. We were trying to enjoy the semi-final and afterwards we were just talking about the game.

“My wife knows better than me everything about Liverpool. She reads a lot of books and I think that she really enjoys it here. She’s settled here and she’s really happy. She explains to me some things and she’s really pleased here.”
