While the Hicks’ family arrives in Greece, Champions League fever will consume a corner of Texas.

“We’re having a party in the American Airline Centre in Dallas,” he said. “There will be free beer, fish and chips and pizza and we expect around 3,000 to come to watch.

“The interest has always been here and the local connection excites people there. There will be Milan and Liverpool fans there.

“As for my family, we have a plan A and plan B depending on the result. Plan A involves coming back to Liverpool and celebrating, so hopefully that’s what will happen. I don’t even want to think about plan B.”

Come Thursday morning, one suspects these won’t be the only major plans under discussion.
