LFC ACADEMY: McAuley seeking return to form

LIVERPOOL under-18s aim to score only their second Premier Academy League victory of 2008 when they return to action this weekend.

Hugh McAuley’s side didn’t have a fixture on Saturday, but face Barnsley at the Kirkby Academy this Saturday (kick-off 11am).

After a prolific start to the campaign, Liverpool have stuttered in front of goal since the turn of the year. But coach McAuley is hoping that they can get back to their earlier scoring form.

He said: “By and large our football is okay at the moment. We are in that sort of phase at the moment, where we are creating chances without taking them. Earlier in the season all the forwards were scoring them quite frequently and we just need to get back to that.

“All we can do is work on the stuff we have been working on and hope we can get back to the way we were in scoring goals.

“It is a situation that happens to most teams at some stage during a season. But we have four games left and we want to finish the season off strongly and get back to scoring again.”

Liverpool have just four Academy League matches left with two at home to Barnsley and Derby County and two away at Leeds and a re-arranged fixture with north west group leaders Manchester City.

But they will also go to the Middle East for a tournament when the Academy League shuts down for the Easter holidays.
