Inertia is stopping progress of club

LIVERPOOL’S performance at Sunderland was not one that you could say will make the rest of the top four sit up and take notice.

However, three points away from home is a good start to the season and was all we could ask

Torres’s goal was fantastic and worth waiting for. After the success Torres had last season, when the board backed Rafa with big money to purchase the striker, it must be galling for the manager not to have his judgement backed fully this time out.

What is a ‘correct’ price for Barry? Looking at the benchmark United have set for midfielders and maybe taking into account his age, possibly £15m might be a better price?

Liverpool are supposedly looking for similar money for Alonso. So if £15m is okay, but he’s deemed to be overpriced at £18m, how skint are we that £3m stops us buying a player that the manager thinks will improve our chances in the Premier League?

Benitez is currently trying to win the hardest league in the world against the backdrop of years of poor decisions and inertia at Anfield and now, due to the actions of Hicks and Gillett, the club is saddled with mounting debt.

The only thing holding this club together at present is the support and the all-too-often blind faith of the fans.

However, the blinkers have come off for many people now though and mere frustration is being replaced by anger – and in some cases action and organisation. Many people I know have drifted away because of this and unless Gillett and Hicks sort out the problems, then maybe the limit of our ambitions is merely aiming at a top-four finish again and with that, the likely possibility of Rafa eventually walking.

And really, who could blame him?
