PHIL JAGIELKA would be the perfect signing for Everton – because he embodies the qualities that made their season a success.
He is tough, competitive, consistent and can play in a number of different positions.
So the Sheffield United man will only make David Moyes’s squad stronger.
If you look at the likes of Phil Neville, Joleon Lescott and Leon Osman, he already has a number of players who can slot into different roles.
It means that while he might only sometimes have a squad of 18 players available, with this versatility it’s more like 22.
So signing Jagielka would be like signing two or three new players instead of one.
In terms of raising money, I think it’s time to cut the losses with James Beattie – there’s no point giving him another season.
Beckham recall should be stop-gap only >>>
