Sheffield United Youth 1, Liverpool Youth 3

The scores were level at half-time, and Liverpool breathed a sigh of relief just after the break when Abdi curled wide from a good position.

But it wasn’t long before Liverpool were back in the ascendancy and they went in front for the first time on the night.

Swedish youngster Astrit Ajdarevic had been growing in confidence in midfield as the match went on. He put Putterill in on the left-hand edge of the box and the 17-year-old winger curled a superb effort into the top corner.

It deflated the home side and Ajdarevic fired just wide from 20 yards, before Putterill was denied by a superb save from Sheffield keeper Stephen Hernandez from a diving header.

Liverpool wrapped things up late on when Ajdarevic’s corner headed home by last year’s Youth Cup-winning captain Stephen Darby.
