“But the main thing is that this job will give me the opportunity to have some input into the national team.
“Even though I stopped playing I’ve never stopped wanting Wales to do well and sometimes it’s a bit frustrating being an outsider and not being able to influence things as you would like.
“I think there are a lot of good young talented players coming through and I’m sure I will enjoy working with them and trying to get the best out of them.
“I always loved playing for Wales and I expect every one of them to feel the same way.”
Next month’s match in Bulgaria is a warm-up for the resumption of the 2008 European Championship qualifying campaign, with Wales entertaining Group D favourites Germany on Saturday, September 8 with an away game against Slovakia the following Wednesday.
Toshack is also hoping to build a young squad capable of making an impact in the World Cup qualifying campaign to follow.
