Fagan gets four match ban for stamp on Arbeloa

Derby striker Craig Fagan has been banned for four matches after he was found guilty of stamping on Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa.

Fagan was found guilty by an independent commission today and given an automatic three-match ban. with an additional game for making what was considered a frivolous appeal.

Fagan does have the right to appeal against the additional one-game suspension, but not the three-match sanction.

A statement from the Football Association read: “At an independent regulatory commission hearing today, a charge of violent conduct against Derby County’s Craig Fagan was found proved.

“Fagan had denied the charge, which related to an incident involving Liverpool’s Alvaro Arbeloa during the match at Anfield on Saturday, September 1.

“Referee Alan Wiley confirmed that he did not see the incident, and that had he done so he would have sent Fagan off.”

Fagan appeared to deliberately stamp on the leg of Arbeloa as the pair tussled close to the touchline. Liverpool won the 6-0.
