DANIEL AGGER will make his long-awaited comeback for Liverpool this evening.
The Denmark international is lined up to play at least 45 minutes for the reserves tonight against Blackburn in Morecambe.
Agger has been absent with a broken metatarsal since the goalless draw against Portsmouth on September 15.
The 23-year-old returned to full training before Christmas after Liverpool commissioned a special pair of boots to help alleviate any discomfort from the injury.
Should Agger come through unscathed, he could even make his first-team return in the FA Cup third round replay against Luton Town on Tuesday.
And Benitez believes the return of the centre-back can help the Anfield outfit produce a better run of form during the second half of the Premier League campaign.
“Agger will play for the reserve team at Blackburn and for us it’s like signing a new player,” said the Anfield manager. “He is very close to starting a game for the first team.
“The injury he had wasn’t a bad one but we had problems also with Xabi Alonso so we needed to be careful and we have missed him. We will be much better in the second part of this season.”
