Honours even in U18s derby

IN an eventful Premier Academy League fixture at Finch Farm visitors Liverpool under-18s came from 3-1 down to salvage a point against neighbours Everton yesterday afternoon.

It was the Neil Dewsnip’s Everton side’s first fixture at the club’s new training complex in Halewood and they will be rueing not taking all three points despite finishing the match with 10 men following the sending-off of James McCarten.

Liverpool took the lead on seven minutes through Gary Mackay-Steven, but Kieran Agard levelled seven minutes later.

The home side went in front eight minutes into the second half when Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala lobbed into his own net, before Lewis Codling made it 3-1.

Despite Marvin Pourie seeing a penalty saved by Everton keeper Lars Stubhaug goals from Nathan Eccleston and substitute Michael Collins gave Liverpool a share of the spoils.
