Jose Mourinho wants to succeed Rafa Benitez as Liverpool manager, it was once again claimed this weekend.
A national newspaper has reported that the former Chelsea boss - not particularly popular among the Liverpool faithful - has contacted Liverpool's American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett through a third party indicating that he would like to take charge next season.
The Portuguese manager's exit deal with Chelsea last September is said to prevent him from returning to a Premier League club this season - but he is said to have told friends that he wants to return to England.
It is not the first time Mourinho has been linked with Anfield. When Benitez fell out with the owners last year, Mourinho's name was put forward then.
Yesterday, German sources claimed Jurgen Klinsmann, due to take over at Bayern Munich, turned down the chance to replace Benitez in the summer.
But Benitez is refusing to be drawn on the speculation and when asked if it washaving an impact, he said: "Not really. I am trying to concentrate on the next game.
"It is disappointing not to win the game and perhaps close the gap at the top. In this position you cannot think about the leaders. When you talk about a draw away from home you must be disappointed. All I am thinking about is the next game against Luton in the FA Cup and then Aston Villa."
