Jan 23 2008 Liverpool Daily Post
MARK LAWRENSON (Daily Post, Jan 21) is right – the off-field issues need to be sorted soon or not only will they destroy this season but next season as well.
A title challenge is long gone, but if we continue in this form we will soon be out of the cups too.
If we also fail to finish fourth, the ability to bounce back next season will be undermined as we won’t be able to attract or afford the players we need to compete for the title.
The reason they are not playing well is the off-field situation.
We were on the tails of the leaders until this storm blew up, whereas we have only won four in 10 league games since.

They don’t care
THE Americans don’t seem to care about Rafa, the fans or Liverpool Football Club being in the wrong hands.
In Rafa we trust!

Not good enough
I’M 27 years of age and can barely remember us winning a league championship, and it hurts badly.
We started this season with optimism and our league campaign has descended into farce scrapping and fighting for fourth place AGAIN. This just isn’t good enough for LFC and it’s turned into a shambles.
Obviously the manager takes part of the blame for this it’s his team, his selections and formations but my anger is at large amount of these overpaid professionals who lack urgency, heart, drive and bottle – with the exceptions being Gerrard, Carragher, Mascherano and Torres.

Restore Alonso
FORGET the owners. How may times has Rafa been backed in public only for him not to deliver?
It is time we realised that his rotation policy is not working, and there was no game plan in the draw with Aston Villa on Monday.
I know some Reds fan prefer Mascherano to Alonso, but if Rafa does not bring back Alonso in the middle we will continue to lose points.

Blame players
THERE are too many players who aren’t stepping up and taking responsibility this season.
Now they may use this takeover talk as an excuse, but the problems with some players were occurring long before that.
The list of players who have performed near to or better than expected this season is a short one – with possibly only Torres on it.
If certain players don’t show improvement from now until the end of the season, I can see a few of them being moved on.

Don’t walk out
DID you see the writing on the wall?
One moment they are castigating the owners for disrespecting Rafa and the next – they are justifying the owners’ mistrust in Rafa by walking out on the lads before the match is even over. What a complete quagmire!
Rest assured the lads on the pitch won’t merit your support next time.
