AFTER the defeat to Barnsley I fully expected a different side to take to the field against Inter and right from the off Liverpool were in charge.
Comparisons with the Juventus game in 2005 were clear for all to see. Inter dug in and defended superbly but with Javier Mascherano prowling around the space in front of the centre-halves it felt like a goal was coming throughout the whole game, and when it did I was delighted to see Dirk score it.
That’s two in two for the Dutchman, and he thoroughly deserved the goal for all the effort he’d put in.
We’re still not as incisive as we should be, but the performance of Torres was excellent following his injury break.
Gerrard’s performance was, as usual in these types of games, tremendous.
His goal capped off an excellent display; probing, passing, covering and creating everything good from Liverpool.
Everything is still not rosy in the garden, but hopefully Rafa will see that a rotation policy at this stage of the season doesn’t make sense.
We have to get back up to fourth at the very least and we can only do that with our strongest team out on the pitch.
The return against Inter will be a huge match, but one that we can get through if the manager sticks to the best XI. There are signs that the Reds are starting to get it together again.
