Manchester United are terrified of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard - claim

LIVERPOOL defender Alvaro Arbeloa insists that Manchester United are terrified of deadly duo Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard.

The Reds travel to Old Trafford on Sunday buoyed by the recent displays from their attacking pair.

Liverpool have eased into the Champions League quarter-finals and are in pole position to snatch fourth place in the Premier League. And Spanish defender Arbeloa insists Torres can spearhead a much-needed upset at Old Trafford.

“I hope Torres scores again. He was on target against Inter away so why can’t he score at Old Trafford? He is a great player and he can do it.

“Fernando and Stevie are playing really well, scoring goals and have a good partnership.

“I think the United defenders will be really worried.”

Despite those claims, Arbeloa warns of the threat posed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He’s playing well and scoring goals. The team has to defend very well together to stop these kinds of players.

“You worry a little bit when you’re up against Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney because they are fantastic players — but that’s my job.

“We have big defenders here like Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia and Fabio Aurelio. They are great defenders, so I can sleep well.

“My team-mates are happy and have a lot of confidence.

“We have confidence in ourselves because we are playing really well. We need to win and we’ll go to Manchester with this mentality.”

“My team-mates are happy and have a lot of confidence. Our performances over the last seven games have been really good.

“For the players these derby games are really important. These games are different than normal games, you really have to fight for every ball.”
