Fears grow over Fernando Torres ahead of Derby

RAFA BENITEZ has expressed concern about the fitness of Fernando Torres, who picked up a number of knocks in what turned out to be a bruising encounter for Liverpool's top scorer during the 3-0 defeat at Manchester United.

Benitez ended up taking Torres off with ten minutes to go in a bid to ensure his fitness ahead of next Sunday's clash with Everton.

He is now expected to miss Spain's clash with Italy in midweek. Scans on his ribs are due to take place.

Benitez said: "Fernando has some knocks on his ribs and ankle. A lot of knocks and a lot of kicks. I was just trying to protect him. The doctors will do a scan and we will see."
