Harry Kewell returns from Australia with groin strain

Harry Kewell is returning from international duty with a groin strain.

He was sent back to consult with physios in Sydney having picked up the injury during a friendly against Singapore.

A spokesperson for the Australian FA said: “The prognosis will determine the length of time he’s here (in Sydney).

“If it’s nothing major, as we expect, he will go straight back to Liverpool.

“Football Federation Australia decided to do the right thing by Harry and Liverpool and bring him back to Sydney where he will be looked at by people he is comfortable with.”

Benitez has already admitted it will be difficult for Kewell to win a new contract at Anfield when his current deal expires. in the summer and this latest injury setback will only reduce his chances still further.

Meanwhile, Alvaro Arbeloa believes Everton will pose Liverpool a stiff test when they meet at Anfield on Sunday.

He said: “They have great players like Arteta and Yakubu, and Cahill and Lescott are playing really well.

“They have a lot of players who have done well this season but the most important thing will be our players.

“I think the winner would be strong favourites to finish fourth. It is a really important game and if we beat them then I think it will make the difference.”
