George Gillett hatches plan to take total control at Liverpool FC

GEORGE GILLETT has suggested that he may seek to buy Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks's share in Anfield.

The American has been left hurt by violent threats he claims to have received from Liverpool fans angry at claims he would sell up to Hicks.

Gillett yesterday revealed there is no love lost between him and Hicks, and confirmed that Hicks had vetoed his plan to sell his stake in Anfield to the Dubai consortium DIC.

He now says that he is considering buying Liverpool outright for himself - to ensure his family feel protected.

He said: “A number [of threats] came to the office and my son Foster and daughter-in-law Lauren have received them.

“It’s interesting the calls are not against my wife or myself or my son or my daughter-in-law, as much as they are against us selling to our partner.

“So we are rethinking that. Frankly, I don’t think it’s fair for me to put my family in that kind of danger.

“So instead of thinking about selling, I might think about buying.”
