ONE of the most inexperienced referees officiating in the Champions League will take charge at the Emirates this evening.
Pieter Vink of Holland will be the man in the middle when Arsenal and Liverpool collide in the first leg of their all-English quarter-final tie.
Vink had overseen just one Champions League game before this season before taking charge of four matches this campaign, the most recent of which was Celtic’s game in Barcelona in the previous round.
A clutch of players from both sides will have to tread carefully as one booking would rule them out of next Tuesday’s return leg at Anfield.
Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Fabio Aurelio have already been cautioned twice during this season’s Champions League for Liverpool, while Denilson, Emmanuel Adbeyaor, Emmanuel Eboue, Aleksandr Hleb and Gael Clichy are in the same boat for Arsenal.
Players must serve a one-match suspension if they accrue three yellow cards in the competition.
