Everton and Liverpool fans 200
ANOTHER derby victory for Liverpool and as things stand at the moment it’s difficult to see that pattern changing.
Again, the scoreline did not reflect Liverpool’s domination of the game. Had the two disallowed goals stood – one correctly ruled out, the other not, then a 4-0 result would have been more appropriate.
I think Everton now have two victories in the last 18 derby games and it looks like they might manage only two more in the next 18 – if they are lucky.
The gulf in class was there for all to see again on Saturday, just as at Anfield last season.
Moyes’ pre-match assertions that he was concerned how Everton would manage Liverpool’s supposedly “physical” approach was highly amusing.
The legacy of Joe Royle’s “Dogs of War” approach has always been alive and well at Goodison and – especially against Liverpool – their fans demand it. Cahill’s tackle on Alonso deserved the straight red in my opinion. His left leg caught Alonso but it was the action of his right leg swinging around in a scissors motion that made Mike Riley’s mind up.That, and Cahill ignoring Riley and arrogantly walking away.
Again, there was no real pressure on Liverpool and for 90% of the game it was one-way traffic, Pepe Reina was in Yosser Hughes mode.
If the Blues lose to Standard Liege next week then what does the season hold for them? Also, will Moyes want to stay if he feels Everton cannot help him achieve his own ambitions in the game?
As Liverpool fans we have little interest but the alarm bells are ringing loud at Goodison. The Everton fans seem to think we can hear them in Scandinavia for some obscure reason?
Then again, it’s been hard to understand Evertonians’ logic for a long time now. As far as Liverpool fans are concerned this was a highly satisfactory and routine victory.
