FORMER Liverpool fans’ favourite Robbie Fowler has declared he’d love to return to Anfield as manager one day.
The 34-year-old striker, who played for Blackburn Rovers last season and is now turning out for Australian A-League side North Queensland Fury, netted 183 goals in 369 games for Liverpool in two spells.
However, Fowler has now admitted he’d love to come back to Anfield for a third time – as Rafael Benitez’s successor – despite making a fortune off the field in the property market.
The Spaniard has already tipped Jamie Carragher as his potential replacement but Fowler has thrown his hat into the ring for when Benitez eventually does depart.
He said: "Anyone who says they don’t want to manage Liverpool is
lying – it’s a massive club.
"Personally, I always said I’d pack in young and take a break, but the older I’ve become, the more I’ve looked into coaching or managing.
"I probably will go down that route. It’s a tall order, and I’m not going to say I’ll go on to manage Liverpool, but you never know."
Meanwhile, one of Fowler’s former Manchester City team- mates could be on his way to Anfield with Liverpool set to launch a £2million bid to sign Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.
Benitez is in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Sami Hyypia to Bayer Leverkusen.
Distin only has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park and recently admitted his future was uncertain.
"Right now I expect to be here next season but I’m not in touch with anyone and tomorrow things can change," he said.
"There may be a new manager with his players and I won’t play. A lot of things can happen in the coming months.
