“I’m pleased with my own form,” said Lucas, who scored in a 2-0 friendly win over Oldham behind closed doors at the Academy in Kirkby yesterday.
“Last season I played some games and this season I want to play more. I’m doing extra work on the weights and that’s helping me a lot. I’m just trying to be focused on the season.
“I’m reading things about me, but honestly I don’t care. I just have to stay strong and focused and show my team-mates and the manager what I can do.
“I feel as though I’m at the same level of strength and fitness as everyone else in the squad. Now I feel I can start to mature in the Premier League.”
Reports emanating from Brazil during the past few weeks have suggested Lucas is seeking a move back to his homeland, with Corinthians a prospective destination.
But the midfielder said: “I’ve been hearing these stories about me, and I don’t know where they are coming from. I read some reports that said I’d told Rafa that I want to leave. I’ve never said anything like that to Rafa. If you ask Rafa about it, he will say the same.
“I’m just looking to stay at Liverpool, be focused on playing games and helping the team to win silverware.”
