There were more cries of woe after Saturday's defeat, but the sight of a team in red crumbling once it had fallen behind was not an edifying one.
We didn't seem to have the strength to fight them despite their 30-somethings in midfield.
If two games per week is beyond some of our players a serious review of training methods is needed.
The manager's call for "real" football displayed an element of fear that sadly communicated itself to the players.
It certainly got through to a gleeful Sam Allardyce. So much for the anniversary of Shankly's death being an inspiration.
The goalkeeper's had a poor start, but this is the first time he's actually cost us points.
The decision was a disgrace but the subsequent attempt to save the free-kick was baffling.
Other players haven't quite got up to speed either, including the captain.
Of course it's sacrilege to say so, with most fans choosing to highlight the numerous positions he's started in (not that he ever stays in any of them).
The anguished cries grow in intensity because of the opponents we've lost to.
I can't think of any worse places to visit, apart from Old Trafford.
And since that's our next away game in the Premiership you'll get good odds on those moans becoming louder.
