THOSE of you who have always suspected that the overpaid stars of the Premiership are not the sharpest knives in the drawer may well have had your suspicions confirmed by the selection of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year revealed on Sunday night.
Now call me biased, but surely the choice of eight players from down the East Lancs Road was overdoing it slightly?
Nobody is going to argue with the likes of Ronaldo or Scholes, but the selection of the entire back five? Let’s ignore for the moment that Gary Neville, the players’ choice at right-back, has been absent through injury for most of the season; and even that Ferdinand and Vidic aren’t fit to lace Terry and Carragher’s boots.
But is Patrice Evra really the best left-back in the Premiership? The answer to this and other mysteries I surmise could be found in the results the weekend that the players cast their votes. Team of the Year?
More likely Team of the Moment As I’m Rushing Out of the Dressing Room and Can’t Be Bothered to Think of Anyone Else.
