KNOWSLEY Council has announced a series of events as its contribution towards Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.
A programme, titled Celebrate, Innovate, Create, 08, reveals that everything from theatre and dance to classical concerts, exhibitions and community festivals will be staged throughout the area.
Cllr Eddie Connors, cabinet member for Leisure, Community and Culture, said they were delighted to join Liverpool in the celebrations.
“But the events are also part of our regular work to inspire people into having more active lives and participate in cultural activities that help them achieve their potential.”
The events are designed to reflect Knowsley’s history in arts, heritage and sport and involve museums, galleries, libraries, Knowsley Hall and the National Wildflower Centre.
Among the events announced will be a Knowsley Hall Music Festival in the grounds of the hall, a Knowsley Green Fayre at the Wildflower Centre, a series of exhibitions from international artists and in March, Carnivale, a music and arts festival celebrating the achievements of young people.
Sport will be marked with a Liverpool-Knowsley Mini Cup, an International Soccer tournament and a Football Fiesta carnival.
