200 taking part in Sing Live Merseyside

SOME 200 singers will take to the Philharmonic Hall stage in Liverpool next month to celebrate pop music of the 1960s and 1970s.

This is the world of Sing Live Merseyside, a singing club which people can join with no experience, no audi-tion, just the pleasure of singing.

It is one of a number of such clubs spread across the country, founded 10 years ago by John Morris.

Originally he plann-ed to have just one club in Leeds, performing two concerts a year.

But it was so successful that eight cities – including Liverpool – now have clubs, all performing concerts. The Sing Live Merseyside concert on Saturday, February 17, will features songs by performers like Petula Clark, the Beatles, Cilla Black and the Beach Boys among others.

Among the singers will be Crosby caterer Tom Morley, a man who joined in 2005 after a lifetime of singing to family and friends, song writing and even singing at the Liverpool Playhouse.

“I wanted to improve my singing and musical knowledge and this was the ideal way to do it,” he says.

“I never expected to learn so much about making performances more professional and I feel my voice can only get better. There will be more than 200 of us performing in Febru-ary. It really will be a sight – and sound – to behold.”
