A night of kissing at Tate Liverpool

THERE will be a lot of kissing going on at the Tate Liverpool this Thursday.

It is all part of the gallery’s monthly Late at Tate events, staged for visitors after 6pm.

This month it will include a group performance piece, Kissing, created by visual artist Claire Blundell Jones and, like the other events on the night, based on the current Twentieth Century exhibition.

The exhibition includes Rodin’s iconic sculpture The Kiss and Ms Jones will choreo-graph the performance around the galleries, aiming to see if it can be as beautiful as Rodin’s work or “just as repulsive as some people perceive kissing in public to be”.

Couples and singles will be coming from across the country to take part.

Also on the night, conceptual artist Michael Craig-Martin will talk about his work in the exhibition – Four Identical Boxes With Lids Reversed – and other pieces in the show.

Guitarist Richard Harding and saxopho-nist Phil Hargreaves will play new pieces by North West composers based on works in the exhibition.

There will be music from Mellowtone DJs, and The Neil Campbell Collective will play work inspired by the collection using an electric cello, pro-cessed classical guitar and wordless vocals.

The events begin at 6pm and run until 9pm.
