Poet, Levi Tafari _220
LIVERPOOL poet Levi Tafari led a mass reading event in which scores of people got together at Halton’s Stobart Stadium.
Tafari launched the event as a double tribute to St George and the National Year of Reading.
Schoolchildren, emergency services, councillors and Halton Mayor and Mayoress started the event by reading as they sat on the pitch. Everyone was encouraged by Levi to read anything, a book, comic or even the text messages on their phone to celebrate the joy of reading.
Halton Borough Council’s reader development officer, Janette Fleming, said: “Reading is everywhere and it’s not just about books: you can read anything, anywhere and anytime, and you can do it anywhere.”
Tafari, who has worked on a number of projects encouraging creative writing, has also worked on music projects.
