Outer space comes to the Albert Dock
LIVERPOOL’S Albert Dock is hosting the premiere of a free outdoor astronomy exhibition of images from space by the Hubble telescope.
From Earth to the Universe, sponsored by leading specialist picture agency the Science Photo Library, is on until June 29.
Liverpool starts the exhibition due to its status as European Capital of Culture 2008.
The exhibition will then go on to travel the world in the build-up to the International Year of Astronomy 2009.
The images are taken from the Hubble Space telescope and give a fascinating insight into the creation and workings of the cosmos.
Albert Dock director Joe Edge said: “We are delighted to be displaying such magnificent pieces of photography at the Albert Dock.
“As 2008 marks such a huge year for Liverpool, people from all around the world will be visiting the Dock and this display gives them the chance to see something unique in an unusual setting.
“We have always felt that displaying such exhibitions furthers the Albert Dock’s ethos of providing each visitor with a totally unique experience.”
The exhibition will be mounted along the railings of the Colonnades, from Nauticalia to Tate Liverpool.
Maria Storey of the Science Photo Library said: “As you walk through the exhibition From Earth to the Universe it feels easy to appreciate the beauty of the universe through this amazing imagery.”
