Town’s Liverpool links celebrated with exhibition

ORMSKIRK’S recently refurbished Chapel Gallery is helping Liverpool celebrate its Capital of Culture year with a special exhibition.

L39 – Liverpool Links is now showing at the gallery on St Helens Road, Ormskirk, until June 28.

Visitors will see how the vibrant and complex city is brought to life by various artists through a variety of media, including painting, photography and sculpture.

West Lancs councillor Geoff Hammond, portfolio holder for community services, said: “West Lancashire has a strong connection with Liverpool; a history of reciprocal migrat- ion, significant transport links and the gallery itself has a Liverpool postcode – L39.

“Therefore, in recognition of the city's title of European Capital of Culture 2008, this exhibition celebrates the creative talent inspired by the physical and cultural landscape of this unique city.

“I would urge people to come along and take a look at this mixture of exciting works that explore the artists' indi- vidual and often deeply personal relationships with this city."

Showing alongside this exhibition is a showcase of photography celebrating the people and places found in West Lancs.

District Visions Today in- cludes a series of photographs taken by residents at the turn of the Millennium.

Visitors are invited to email in their own photographs of the rich landscapes and colourful personalities found in West Lancashire, then watch while the artwork grows. All are welcome to participate in the project by emailing jpegs to: chapel.gallery@west-lancsdc.gov.uk.

The Chapel Gallery is open 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and entry is free.

It also hosts a range of other activities.
