Musical creepy-crawlies on the Philharmonic menu for children’s concert

MYTHS, magic and minibeasts were all brought to life through music for an audience of delighted children yesterday.

CBBC presenter Dave Benson Phillips joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in presenting tales by children’s author Ann Bryant.

Some 2,500 school children from across Merseyside saw some of their own work projected on big screen as Anthony Inglis conducted the orchestra through classic insect inspired works.

Bryant’s opening tale, entitled Wasp Alert in Minibug Bonanzaland, was accompanied by Ralph Vaughan Williams’s The Wasps, while Beethoven and Saint-Saens also acted as a score for the stories.

Jason McGarvey and Maryem Azziz, two seven- year-old pupils from St Cuthbert’s School, Old Swan, were two of the youngsters who managed to get on stage at the Philharmonic Hall to enjoy the spectacle.
