Big Dance draws a big crowd

HUNDREDS of people gathered in Williamson Square yesterday to take part in The Big Dance.

Prior to the event, 8 steps for 08 were posted on the Culture Company’s website to encourage everyone to learn the routine and take part.

Luca Silvestrini, from Protein Dance, had been commissioned by the Culture Company to devise the steps.

Choreographers Becky West and Louise O’Brien took to the stage and went through the steps and managed to get all of the crowd to participate, with a little help from the girls of Urban Street Stars, who took part in Rise and Shine on Friday.

Urban Street Stars teacher Becky, from Huyton, said: "It has been really brilliant to be here today. I think everybody has enjoyed it. I was very pleased to see so many people really get into it."

"With the girls dancing at the front I don’t think anyone could help but be infected by their enthusiasm."

Lauren Grannell, 9, from Page Moss, who dances with Urban Street Stars twice a week, was in the DVD teaching the steps.

She said: "I was in the DVD to help everyone learn the steps. I love dancing and I really enjoyed it today. The record attempt on Friday was brilliant and great to be part of. I really want to be a dance teacher now."

Lauren managed to get her proud grandmother, Colette Thoms, to join in with the dancing.

Mrs Thoms said: "It is great to see things like The Big Dance taking part in Liverpool. Everyone has enjoyed today."
