Artistic flair of Flickr users

A WEALTH of artistic shots are continuing to fill our Flickr photo sharing website. From Liverpool music performers to symbols of the “never-closing” Mersey tunnels, a continuing record is being captured of Merseyside’s character.

The Northshore has taken this striking shot, entitled Day, of a statue on the Mersey Tunnels ventilation station near the waterfront.

However, the snapper is not completely convinced of its symbolism.

The photographer says: “The statues Night and Day are meant to represent the never-closing Mersey Tunnels.

“I don’t know where the statue for closing the tunnel on a Wednesday night when you're trying to get home from Anfield is!”

Greenspice1964 has captured Liverpool band The Sums playing at the Static Gallery on Saturday, at the album launch of fellow Liverpudlian band Aeroplanes.

The yellow and red light, and angle of shot, makes the picture incredibly effective – as does the contrast with the darkened audience.

And Something Wicked This Way Comes has created a wonderful atmosphere and mood with this pensive portrait, by what appears to be Liverpool docks. And the use of a monotone pallet and exposure choice has made the most of the subject.

The gallery now boasts close to 10,000 pictures covering every aspect of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year, and can be viewed at www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/flickr
