THEATRE: For the Love of Mrs Brown brings back one of Liverpool’s favourite characters, the up-front Irish pensioner Mrs Brown. Irish comedian Brendan O’Carroll both plays Mrs Brown and wrote the script – the fourth in the Mrs Brown stage series – which he says is the funniest thing he has ever written. In this outing, Mrs Brown is looking for love. The week is virtually sold out already. Tonight, 7.30pm, Liverpool Empire. Tickets range £13.50-£22.50. Until Saturday 0844 847 2525.

MUSIC: Hades Chariot is a five-piece metal band from Liverpool featuring Matt Keeton as lead vocalist and recently signed to Life Burns Records. EXHIBITION: Magical History Tour offers an overview of the city’s 800- year history, including a short film, Liverpool Story, which charts its time as a fishing village to the Second City of the British Empire.
