Street party and concerts make a grand finale for Liverpool's Festival of Hope

THE biggest events of the City Sings Gospel close the festival this week.

The two-week international festival relating to all things gospel has featured concerts of all shapes and sizes from artists from all round the world.

On Friday, the giant Feast of Choirs is at the Anglican Cathedral, and will feature hundreds of amateur singers and choirs from round the North West who have formed especially to take part. City Sings Gospel has been developing and supporting these

choirs for the last three years in the lead up this year's 2008 celebrations.

X Factor contestant Beverley Trotman and Norway’s Stavanger Gospel Choir are among the special guests at the event.

On Saturday, the free Festival of Hope takes place in Hope Street.

Spokesperson Muireann Kyeyune said: "The Festival of Hope is a one- off event for the Capital of Culture celebrations.

"We want to lift the city and the community up with our inspiring message of hope through Gospel music."

"The music will cover so many exciting genres from world music to rap and I hope we'll have people of all ages dancing in the street.

"You can't feel depressed when you listen to this music, so imagine a full city alive with it."

The main stage will be outside the Anglican Cathedral, blasting out beats throughout the day, there will be a carnival of costumes in the morning, street performers, dancers, singers, market food stalls. along the street and concerts at each cathedral to close the event.
