THE winning entries of the Rathbones Summer Exhibition are to stay on display in the Port of Liverpool Building until Saturday, to allow visitors to the Tall Ships to pop in and see some of the magnificent works.
Rathbones launched the Summer Exhibition in support of the 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations in Liverpool to showcase the creativity of Liverpool’s schools.
Exhibits have been submitted by pupils from a range of local secondary schools representing a range of artistic media from the written word and painting, to textiles, sound, film and computer graphics. More than 170 entries were received and judged by a panel of high profile figures in the Liverpool arts and business scene.
Loyd Grossman commented on the standard of the work as being of "very high quality", while Mike McCartney said the exhibition was a "fascinating, different assortment of ideas from art to sculpture, to dance".
Margi Clark added: "The standard of the students’ work is fantastic and more than tells the gem stories of Liverpool's culture".
The exhibition is open from 11am to 3pm every day this week. Visitors can vote for who should win the people’s choice award.
Early in 2007, Rathbones announced its intention to contribute £120,000 to local Merseyside schools via the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
The four schools to benefit are Croxteth Community Comprehensive, St Benedict’s College, King David’s High and The Bluecoat School. Several inter-school activities and competitions have also taken place in order to foster better links between schools.
